Central Vermont:

  • Warren Falls (Warren): A cliff jumper's dream with four separate waterfalls on the Mad River.

  • Buttermilk Falls (Ludlow): Easily accessible from the road, with two pools below the upper and middle falls.

  • Bristol Falls (Bartlett Falls) (Bristol): A very popular swimming area with a wide waterfall you can sit under or behind.

  • The Gorge (East Middlebury): Offers various heights for jumping into the Middlebury River.

  • Old Mill Park (Jericho): A dipping spot on the Browns River with unique rock formations.

  • Texas Falls (Hancock): Potholes in the rock created by glacial meltwater.​

Important Safety Tips:

  • Always be aware of currents, especially after heavy rains.

  • Never jump from bridges or cliffs unless you are certain of the water's depth and any hidden obstacles.

  • Practice Leave No Trace principles: pack out everything you bring in.

  • Some popular spots can get crowded, especially on hot summer days.

  • Cell service can be limited in some remote areas

Southern Vermont:

  • The Dorset Quarry (Dorset): One of the most popular swimming holes, located in an old marble quarry.

  • Quechee Gorge (Quechee): A beautiful 165-foot canyon with a great swimming hole at the north end.

  • Clarendon Gorge (Clarendon): High cliffs and a deep pool with a rope swing.

  • Salmon Hole at Jamaica State Park (Jamaica): Clear, slow-moving waters on the West River.

  • Emerald Lake State Park (Dorset): Offers a beautiful sandy beach and swimming area.

  • Rainbow Rock Swimming Hole (Chester): A public access spot on the Williams River with large pools.
